  • Modernising the Law

With its resounding slogan of "Modernising the Law," the Commission undertakes a pivotal role in sculpting a legal framework that resonates with the pulse of Ugandan society. Embedded within this slogan lies a profound commitment to enhancing, reshaping, and contemporizing the legal landscape of Uganda.

Embracing Change for Progress

The Commission's mandate echoes a profound responsibility—to meticulously study and perpetually scrutinize the fabric of laws that shape Uganda. This involves not merely preserving statutes but nurturing a dynamic process of continuous enhancement. "Modernising the Law" encapsulates a multifaceted approach, fostering systematic improvement, development, and reform across various dimensions

1) Elimination of Anomalies and Obsolescence

Central to the mission is the eradication of legal anomalies and the repeal of archaic, redundant laws. This purge ensures a legal framework that aligns with contemporary needs, fostering relevance and coherence in the legal system.

2) Simplification and Translation

Complexity often shrouds the law, creating barriers to understanding and access. The Commission endeavours to simplify laws, making them more comprehensible and accessible to all stakeholders. Translation further widens this access, ensuring that legal principles are understood and embraced by diverse communities.

3) Reflecting Societal Values and International Standards

Uganda's laws must mirror the customs, values, and norms of its vibrant society. Moreover, the Commission strives to embed principles consistent with international frameworks, such as the United Nations Charter and the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights. This synthesis fosters a legal framework that resonates globally while remaining rooted in local contexts.

4) Responsive Development of New Legal Areas

Society evolves, and so must its laws. The Commission is dedicated to developing new legal domains that respond to the evolving needs of Ugandan society. This agility ensures that the legal system remains relevant and adaptive in addressing contemporary challenges.

5) Innovative Methods of Law Administration

Efficiency and effectiveness lie at the heart of justice delivery. By embracing innovative methods for law administration and dispensation of justice, the Commission ensures a swift and equitable legal process for all.

6) Integration and Unification

Harmonizing the laws of Uganda stands as a cornerstone of the Commission's efforts. This integration and unification aim to streamline and consolidate various legal facets, fostering coherence and consistency within the legal framework.
