Ms. Jane Adong Anywar has a legal background in Environmental Law, Land Law, Family Law and International Humanitarian Law. She served in the Ministry of Justice in the Attorney-General’s Chamber, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) based in Arusha, Tanzania and the International Justice Mission.
She is also a founding member of the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in Uganda and has professional experience working with the National Environment Management Authority, Uganda Wildlife Authority and the Uganda Forestry Authority. She is currently a Director of the Lemuel Community Based Initiatives Organization in Northern Uganda
The Commissioner has been assigned to oversee three projects namely; the development of legislation on Witness Protection, the development of a Model Law on Amnesty and development of a Transitional Justice law and policy framework.
An inaugural meeting between the newly appointed Commissioner, the Head of Department of Law Reform and the officers responsible for the three projects was held in the Head of Departments Office on the 26th of February 2016. The meeting was held to bring the newly appointed Commissioner up to date on the progress of the projects and to plan for the way forward for the projects.
The department head, Commissioner Nyakaana appreciated the Commissioner’s past accomplishments and emphasized that he was enthusiastic about having her on the team. Commissioner Anywar said that she was happy to be part of the Commission and stressed the need for cooperation and team effort.
