The Uganda Law Reform Commission is hosting the Annual Association of Law Reform Agencies in the Eastern and Southern Africa (ALRAESA), Conference, Annual General Meeting and Executive Committee Meeting at Kabira Country Club from the 11th-12th November 2014 starting at 8:30am.
The theme of the conference is “Regional Challenges and the law”. This theme is focusing on contemporary challenges affecting the region. The forum will contribute to the realization of the associations objectives by providing a platform for ALRAESA members to meaningfully share experiences of the different law reform agencies in addressing contemporary regional challenges and jointly building consensus on workable solutions. It will feature presentations from experts in the areas of Law Reform, Natural Resources, International Economic Law and International Family Law.
The topics for discussion are:
a) Law Reform: Best practices and way forward;
b) The law and inter-country adoption: the Malawi experience;
c) Adoption of Children: The Uganda perspective;
d) Anti-Money laundering law: Prospects for success;
e) Utilisation of Water Resources: Between Sustenance and Profit Maximisation;
f) Water resource management: Lake Victoria and the Nile basin experience; and
g) Public disclosure of information in Oil Contracts: A Lens for Accountability and transparency in Oil Exploration and Production.
