Output of ULRC

The commission in corroboration with other government agencies and partners has under taken various projects, some of which have been completed. While others are at various stages of completion these include;

  • Revision and publication of laws of Uganda(sixth revised edition,2000)
  • Currently undertaking major revision of laws of Uganda, for the production of the seventh revised edition)
  • Currently undertaking studies on reform of legislation in the areas of leasing, civil procedure, succession, penal code, witness protection, registration of titles, employment act, trade licensing, among others.
  • Sentencing guidelines for the judiciary
  • Translational justice reforms.
  • Under took a study on HIV/AIDS the draft bill is in parliament.
  • Publication of compendium of electoral laws,(2006)
  • Publication of compendium of  electoral laws ,(2011)
  • Publication and reprint of the local governments act, cap.243 (as at 2006).
  • Reprint of the constitution
  • Publication of the living law journal
  • Publication of revised [principal laws,2001-2004
  • Publication of  subsidiary laws,2001-2004
  • Production of the grey book-compendium of selected civil and criminal procedure laws (12 enactments relating to everyday processes in courts.)
  • Production of a compendium of land laws and related laws on land, 2011.
  • Production of a compendium of selected commercial laws, 2006.
  • Undertook a study on reform of the children act.
  • Translation of abridged version of the constitution into Langi and Acholi(2008)
  • Translation of the abridged version of local council courts act,2006
  • Printing of a booklet on “How our laws are made”
  • Participation in the negotiations and drafting of the treaty establishing the East African community ( EAC) as part of the legal and drafting  experts committee.
  • Involvement in harmonizing the common market protocol with the national laws.
  • Translation and production of the simplified local council courts in Ateso
  • Translation and production of the simplified local council courts in Luganda.
  • Translation and production of the simplified local council courts in Ngakarimojong
  • Publication of a hand book for local authorities on the law making process “How Ordinances and bye-laws are made” for use by the Districts and lower councils.
  • Celebrated 20 years of ULRC existence in 2010.
